What is an approved specified nonprofit corporation?

Some nonprofit organizations operating in Japan can obtain special approval from the commissioner of the National Tax Agency if they meet certain conditions, such as having appropriate management structures and types of activities and making contributions to the public good. Donors to these approved NPOs are eligible for a range of preferential treatments, including tax exemption and inclusion in charges against revenue for their donations.
