    Formal announcement of the establishment of the NPO National Council on Fujisan World Heritage
    The NPO National Council on Fujisan World Heritage was launched by founders representing various fields including former prime minster Yasuhiro Nakasone, Dentsu advisor emeritus Yutaka Narita, and the governors of Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures. This marked the start of activities to promote registration of FUJISAN as a World Heritage Site.

    Establishment of FUJISAN Fund
    An event promoting the registration of FUJISAN as a World Heritage Site was held at the Fujiyama Museum in Fujikawaguchiko Town. The FUJISAN Fund was established as a permanent fund to finance activities for protecting the FUJISAN cultural landscape before and after World Heritage Site registration. Speed skater Tomomi Okazaki lent her support.

    The FUJISAN Symposium was held at the Nippon-seinenkan Hotel.
    Guests including Danjuro Ichikawa VII, Iruka, and Nobuko Inaba were invited to the FUJISAN Symposium. The keynote address presented by Shuji Takashina described the reasons why FUJISAN should be a World Heritage Site. In June of the same year, at the 31st World Heritage Committee meeting in New Zealand, FUJISAN was added to the provisional registration list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

    The World Heritage Symposium was held at Tokyo International Forum.
    This Symposium that was held at Tokyo International Forum included a panel discussion by Mr.Kichiemon Nakamura (Kabuki actor), Mr.Yasuhiro Yamashita (Olympic gold medalist, Judo) and Ms.Atsuko Toyama (Former Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).

    FUJISAN - The Origins of Our Faith and Arts was published by Shogakukan.
    With the cooperation of Shogakukan, we published FUJISAN - The Origins of our Faith and Arts, a book promoting the cultural value of FUJISAN in ways both intellectual and emotional. The cover photo was taken by Yukio Oyama, and the calligraphy was written by Chairman Yasuhiro Nakasone.

    The FUJISAN Day Forum was held at Seiryokaikan.
    The forum featured a lecture by Chief Director Atsuko Toyama titled "FUJISAN - The Path to World Heritage", as well as a dialogue about FUJISAN between Man Arai and Masami Nagasawa, and a live performance by Man Arai.

    The FUJISAN Day Forum was held at Dentsu Hall.
    The forum featured a panel discussion on the future of FUJISAN and Japan from the perspectives of environmental preservation activities and creating a culture of charitable donations. The goal was to determine the best way for private-public environmental preservation management to operate. The panelists were Zenko Oda (Steering Committee chairman, National Council on Fujisan World Heritage), Satoru Hosaka (FUJISAN Beautification Foundation), Ken Hasebe (chief director, NPO greenbird), Daigo Sato (representative director, Justgiving Japan and chief director, NPO Dot-JP), and Yuji Arakawa (founder and representative, GOMI Fantasista Project).

    "FUJISAN Exhibition" was held at the Japanese Cultural Center in Paris.
    This exhibition was conducted jointly by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the governments of Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures, and exhibited a large number of valuable paintings of FUJISAN from the Dentsu Collection, including paintings by internationally well-known artists Taikan Yokoyama, Ikuo Hirayama, and Tamako Kataoka. The aim of the exhibition was to promote the cultural value of FUJISAN in Paris, where the UNESCO headquarters is located. Many visitors were drawn by the pamphlets featuring FUJISAN - The Origins of our Faith and Arts, newly written by Shuji Takashina, and Shining Sun and FUJISAN by Ikuo Hirayama.

    The FUJISAN Day Forum was held at Bellesalle Kanda.
    On February 23, FUJISAN Day, an event was held with invited guests Ryuta Mine and the entertainment duo Hokuyo. The event was broadcast on the internet via "niconico live". The "FUJISAN Top 10 News Show" used video to provide a clear explanation of the deep relationship between FUJISAN and Japanese art culture.
    The event brought wider recognition among regular persons and communicated FUJISAN's qualifications as a World Heritage Site.

    Registration of FUJISAN as a World Heritage Site was decided.
    FUJISAN was finally included to the World Heritage List at the 37th UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
    * On the 26th of the same month, FUJISAN was added to the list of World Heritage Sites.

    A reception to commemorate the registration of FUJISAN as a World Heritage Sites was held at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo.
    With the decision to register FUJISAN as a World Heritage Site, representatives from the two prefectures and the Fujisan Council gathered for a commemorative reception and expressed their gratitude to supporters both in Japan and overseas. At the same time, they again communicated the significance of World Heritage registration to persons around Japan, and requested the understanding and cooperation needed for the future preservation and management of FUJISAN.
